Week 5: Following Christ: Ten Marks of Christ-Centered Ministry

In the final chapter of The Choice, the authors present ten marks of Christ-centered ministry. These are principles that help guide pastors back to the heart of the Gospel, away from worldly distractions and temptations.


The Ten Marks of Christ-Centered Ministry:

Following Christ: 

  1. Submission to the Father
  2. Filled, Led and Empowered by the Holy Spirit
  3. Prayerful Strategic Planning
  4. Raising Kingdom Resources
  5. Ministry Accountability
  6. Transparent Financial Administration
  7. Serving People Humbly
  8. Doing Everything with Love
  9. Mobilizing Spiritually Gifted People
  10. Radical Christian Generosity

 The authors encourage us to:

  1. Focus on the kingdom of God rather than personal achievements.
  2. Lead with humility and servant leadership.
  3. Make decisions based on Scripture, not personal ambition.
  4. Recognize the importance of character over competence.

Application:

  • Review these ten marks and assess how they align with your current ministry practices.
  • Consider how you can implement these principles in your day-to-day decisions and interactions.

The principles discussed in the book provide a powerful framework for building a Christ-centered ministry that reflects the values of God's Kingdom. Remember, the path you’re on as a small church pastor is the path that leads to eternal results. Stay faithful, stay humble, and continue following Christ’s example in all things. The Kingdom path is the only course we can take if we desire to see Kingdom outcomes in our churches and ministries.
